We are in need of a new post. So yeah... Summer is a fun season and it is almost over so try to do some fun summer like things. David has about 7 days left of his crazy schedule and then life will go back to normal. I am looking forward to seeing him again and perhaps finishing off Lego Harry Potter. I still have too many trophies to achieve.

Gamer Wife

I just have to say that I have the coolest wife. The other day as I was trying to go to work a little early to get a head start on some projects Lily said, "Wait!" Yeah? "Let's play a level of New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii before you leave." I really wanted to get into work, but I could not pass up a video game invitation from the wife! Awesome.

Chicago Road Trip

Last Sunday Lily and I decided to take a crazy road trip to Chicago. For one day. We "planned" this trip with only three objectives in mind:
  • [Main Objective] Travel to Mitsuwa Marketplace, an awesome japanese mall in Arlington Heights, and buy food and fun stuff.
  • Get McDonald's breakfast on the drive out
  • Obtain cheese curds while driving through Wisconsin on the way home
It may sound crazy, but we did just that.

5:00 A.M. - We were in the car driving from the Twin Cities. After getting gas and getting out of the cities we completed a very tasty objective - We got our Sausage & Egg McMuffin fix from the McDonald's breakfast menu. Mmm, tasty...

*Seven hours of driving*

12:00 P.M. - We made it to Alrington Heights, a suburb of Chicago. Shortly after, we had arrived at Mitsuwa Marketplace and we were like kids in a Japanese candy store. We started by getting some food in the food court. I got my classic shrimp tempura udon and we also split some sushi: california rolls, spicy tuna rolls and unagi. Yum!

After that we hit the liquor store and bought some saké for my dad and for ourselves. I also bought some Asahi beer just for the fun of it. We wandered around for quite a while looking at japanese books and music. We found a cool shop where we bought some saké cups, rice bowls and some neat soup spoons.

Next up was the grocery store! We got a cool serving platter (intended for serving all the ingredients for hand-rolled cone sushi) that Lily wants to use as a vegetable tray. Lily also got a cool bento box that she's been using everyday! We both got fun new chopsticks. Of course we had to load up on candy and Ramune soda. I don't think we bought too much "real" food...

Finally, we went to the bakery where Lily got a chocolate bavarian creme-filled turtle pastry and I got some delicious yakisoba noodle bread. Oh man it was good!!

3:00 P.M. - We were back in the car heading back home. Our stomachs were full and we were happy. Driving ended up taking forever because a bunch of morons bottle-necked near a construction area which made a 15 mile distance take about an hour to travel.

We finally hit Wisconsin and found a cool cheese shop called the Mouse House. Cheesecurds and rootbeer were obtained thus completed our third objective!

11:15 P.M. - We arrived safely back home! We were completed exhausted. I had passed out in the car while Lily drove 85 mph through the Twin Cities just to get home faster!! Good thing no one saw that...

What a fun day! This isn't the first time we've done a trip like this and it probably won't be the last. :)

Randy Newman Should Go Home (or stick to Toy Story)

We just watched Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" and we just have one question:

WHY IS RANDY NEWMAN WRITING NEW ORLEANS JAZZ MUSIC?!?!?!?!!

Seriously.

During the whole movie we were thinking the music was very very cliché. At one point I even asked Lily, "is it just me or is every song in this movie written in the same key??" She agreed with me and we kept watching. Finally the credits roll, and we see: Original Music by Randy Newman.

Well that explains the cliché corny music. We just both want to know why Disney didn't just hire a real jazz musician to score this film. Randy Newman needs to stick to the Toy Story movies.

Bye Bye Beardie

So I've had a beard for a month or so. Lily's been on my case to get rid of it for a while though.

Tonight is the night.

My man-beard will be no more.

Will I lose any of my power?

We will see.

Anyway, here's a picture for you before the man-beard disappears. I imagine it will be back someday.

Haircut

A $60 haircut is like an expensive video game, that someone keeps stealing, making you pay for it over and over again. Although the game obviously isn't that good of game in the first place because it has no re-playability value, no online multiplayer mode, and no trophy/achievement support. The only reason you keep on re-purchasing it is because you never made it through your initial play-through.

The conclusion we came to today after I got my hairs cut.

Food, Inc. & Netflix

Lily and I have been watching too many documentaries on the food industry/fast food. We watched "Food, Inc." tonight and it was as informative as others. It just makes you sick what goes on behind the scenes. Anyway, it was convincing enough to make us consider buying organic foods whenever possible. It's bringing me one step closer to quitting fast food all together, but if/when that ever happened, it would be waaaaayyyy down the line. (It's just so tasty!)

Anyway, we streamed tonight's movie on our PS3 using Netflix. Netflix is so awesome. This movie was even streaming in HD so we could make a little more use of our sweet 42" HDTV!! (I think it was probably streaming in 720p, but that's still awesome)

Lily says that we're probably just buying into some other corporate scheme by using Netflix, but we love it. :D

Good night!

Blog Post Number One

David and I have decided to start blogging! Mostly as an avenue to post some of our ideas on the world wide web. The real inspiration for me to start this blog came after watching Julie and Julia, not that I will be cooking my way through a cookbook anytime soon. Really we are just trying to give Big Brother the opportunity to keep better tabs on us.
